Yo doing mio cosa en la feed yard |
A feed-yard might be a strange place for a girl to hang out, but it's a good place to practice my Spanish speaking skills. Many of the workers are native spanish speakers, and they are patient with my efforts to communicate. The other day, I came upon a cow-hand sitting on his horse in an empty cattle pen and asked, "Donde estan las vacas?" With a big smile he replied in perfect English, "I don't know, maybe in one of the pens over there!"
The first time I met many of the cow hands, I'd clear my throat, smile and say, "Mi llamo Dasha! Como Estas?" They'd laugh, reply "Bien, bien!" then add, "Your spanish is good!" We'd all laugh together when I'd say, "Well, that's all I know for now, but I'll learn more!" I love the hispanic culture. There's always a lot of laughing!
