Los Tontos de Abril

Los países latinoamericanos no celebrar April Fool's day como lo hacemos en los estados. Sí celebrar un día similar llamado el día de los inocentes. El día de los inocentes es 28 de diciembre. Las estaciones de televisión de noticias y periódicos informe historias falsas, y la gente juega trucos en sí.

Instead of shouting "April Fools" after a trick (not even an option since their day is in December) the tricksters cry "Inocente! Inocente!"

The tradition is based on the outcome of the "Slaughter of the Innocents," a Biblical story found in book of Matthew. According to the story, King Herod wanted to kill baby Jesus, and in order to ensure the deed was done, he ordered the killing of all Jewish boys in Bethleham, aged one and under. But the "joke" was on Herod, because Jesus escaped the slaughter.

Regardless of its historical grisley beginnings, the Day of the Innocents is currently a lighthearted and fun day, mirroring what we celebrate in the states on April 1st, "the sillies of April."

I realize the computer cafes in Latin America countries provide the computers for users. The cafes we visited in Japan were for lap-top users, but they did provide internet cables for those without wireless.

Although one does not have to read Spanish to understand the meaning of the poster above, I am so excited because I could read it! I did read it! I looked at the individual words and actually knew what they each meant. Thank goodness there was no one else in the elevator with me, because I jumped up and down like a five year old, yelling I READ IT! I READ IT!

 Hay muchas razones por las que quiero aprender a hablar español. Uno de ellos es entender lo que algunos de mis amigos están hablando en su página de facebook. Me parece interesante que la risa en español se expresa como "jaja".
